Youth Art Connect Joins Forces with Renowned Street Artists for Be Newquay Festival
We’re excited to announce that Youth Art Connect has been invited to collaborate with some of the UK’s top street artists to design and create stunning murals as part of the upcoming Be Newquay Festival! This month-long celebration of Newquay’s creative spirit will take place from 1 November to 1 December 2024, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and managed by Cornwall Council. It promises to be an unforgettable autumn season filled with activities and workshops that showcase the vibrant way of life and unique culture of Newquay.
A Festival with Community at Its Heart
The Be Newquay Festival is all about the community. Local organizations, including Youth Art Connect, are playing a central role in producing a diverse program of events that truly reflect Newquay’s identity. With many events either free or very affordable, everyone in the community can join in the fun. From live shows, workshops, and exhibitions to outdoor adventures and well-being experiences, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
Street Art Murals: A Highlight of the Festival
One of the most exciting projects announced for the festival is the creation of three large-scale street art murals in Newquay’s town center. Led by the talented team at Slapdash Studio, renowned artists Kleiner Shames, Elle Koziupa, and 45 RPM will be painting murals that depict various aspects of Newquay’s rich heritage and vibrant identity.
But that’s not all! Youth Art Connect has been specially asked to work alongside these incredible artists in designing the murals. This collaboration is a fantastic opportunity for our young artists to contribute their ideas and creativity to these large-scale artworks, leaving a lasting impact on the town. The first design session took place on the 13th August, and Kleiner is due to start applying the design to the mural on the side of MIX at the begining of September.
Engaging the Community Through Art
As the murals come to life, the community will have the chance to witness the creative process firsthand. There will also be street art workshops where people can try their hand at creating their own art. This interactive experience is designed to inspire creativity and curiosity about the town, while also giving people of all ages the chance to learn from and engage with professional artists.
